Restauranteur Nino Pernetti celebrates Caffé Abbracci's 20th Anniversary, Coral Gables
The South Florida Gourmet What's Cooking |
At a glitzy bash Restaurateur Nino Pernetti celebrated the 20th anniversary of Caffe Abbracci – a feat in fickle South Florida - with a cocktail, a dinner and the
presence of his closest friends and fans, including Coral Gables Mayor Sleznick. The Birthday cake was flown in from a bakery in Florence, Italy. It was the
replica of an article which appeared in the Food Section of the Miami Herald, in 1989, entitled "Recipe for a Restaurant," written by then Food Editor Felicia
Gressette. The article, which garnered a prize in Journalism, vividly recounted the efforts of the suave and savvy restaurateur Nino Pernetti to open what would
become one of the best established and most frequented Italian restaurants in Coral Gables. Nino, as trim and fit as in the Miami Herald picture taken twenty years
ago, cut the cake which stood right under the original article, after fireworks and a dinner of green peas risotto, seabass and veal preceded by amuses and hors
d’oeuvres. The menu in 2009 features new dishes focusing on organic ingredients, light sauces and calorie-count that have been added to the traditional Italian fare.
Some of the menu’s highlights include shrimp with Italian parsley in red wine sauce on a bed of cabbage and fennels; grilled langostinos marinated in fresh herbs,
olive-oil and fresh lemon juice served with baked zucchini and parmigiano tortino; halibut with artichokes and truffled-potato marcarpone cheese puree; and for
dessert, the warm caramelized mango “tarte tatin” with vanilla ice-cream.
Caffe Abbracci is open for lunch and dinner, 319 Aragon Ave, Coral Gables, 305-441-0700. www.caffeabbracci.com |
